Your mailbox flag -- up or down -- and why?
by FatFreek 2005 inhere in the states most folks i know put the flag up to alert the carrier that there's mail to pick up.. interestingly, i watched a british film, early 1940's, where the carrier placed a letter in the box and raised the flag, that to alert the resident that he had mail.. the more i thought about that the more the british way makes sense (is that how it's done today in great britain?)..

Dear Dr. Laura; Why Can't I own a Canadian? Some thought provoking questions for Jehovah's Witnesses and the blood issue. :)

laura schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show.
recently, she said that, as an observant orthodox jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance.

Hi BAss,
That's a home run if I ever saw one. I also don't care who originated it -- I like it.

Hi elderelite,
Your criticism appears to be a valid one.
However, my statement was made from ignorance, not an intent to exaggerate. My apology -- and thanks for bringing those facts to my attention.

Ha! To the contrary, that makes you hero number one here. I'm sure you have quite the story to tell as you had elder responsibilities -- and probably more. I'd probably better check your earlier posts for that.
I've been out since '77 and resigned as elder.

Good find, BluesBro. Excellent to have a recent example to show they're not letting up on naiveté recruitment.
And thanks for your cartoon complement.
And Splash -- good for you on your choice of online handle.

Hey Splash (no pun intended, I'm sure),
What good posts from you. I love that "official countdown", taking their own boasts of baptisms down to age 6 years old.

I have become a return visit!
by pajaha injust for background, i da'd 12 years ago and i'm now an atheist/agnostic.. i normally avoid answering to the jws (i can usually tell it's them because i hear two sets of incredibly moving footsteps coming up the stairs to my flat) or they do a quick "magazine presentation" and then they're off.
on one occasion a few weeks ago i answered and the guy seemed up for a discussion.
i said i was an atheist, a lengthy discussion ensued and he "placed" a creation /evolution leaflet with me.. i was expecting a call and, after avoiding them a few times, i finally answered.

Hi Pajaha -- and welcome,
I love it when they call. I always get a chance to divulge the fact that I studied with them many years ago. Not a lie -- I simply don't expose the fact that I then became a MS, an elder, developed a bothered conscience that resulted in disfellowshipping.
Their inevitable question -- "Why did you stop studying?" -- is the perfect lead to my introduction to The Great Watchtower Contradiction, an 11 minute read designed for new ones but which poses questions on topics that the most seasoned JW would cringe at.
Contradiction contains a table handout that you can snip for purse or billfold. I always keep my billfold handy.
